Benji left me only a short eight months after leaving the hell-hole he lived in. Those eight months were a blessing to me, as I had in my life, for that short time, one of the most gentle, loving creatures God has ever put on this earth. I loved him completely and he returned that love. Benji and I had such a special bond. Each day, I would take him outside and he would glory in the freedom, the feel of grass under his little feet, the sunshine...all he had been denied for so long. Then he would come and place his front feet on my knees and I would pick him up. We would sit in a chair and I would sing his special song to him, as he placed his head on my shoulder and slept an untroubled sleep. Oh, how I miss him!
