Operation Sheltie Rescue -- Asheville, NC

Where are they now? (Recent photos and family updates) [Last updated 1/07/04]

The Asheville Shelties are finally FREE! [Update - 1/12/02]

These pages are dedicated to 18 of the 21 surviving Shelties who were seized from their owner on charges of neglect and were subsequently taken into rescue by volunteers associated with the American Shetland Sheepdog Association (ASSA) www.assa.org on March 10, 2000. The Rescue Photos 1 2 3 & 4 were taken on the day they were freed from their prison.

The pictures are sad, but they do not adequately depict their true condition on that day. Only being there, seeing them in their weakened condition, witnessing their vacant stares, smelling the stench of the matted feces and urine, could truly tell the tale. [Clip from initial post - March, 2000]

You can read more of their story here.

Donations are no longer being requested for these particular Shelties. However there are always more rescues than money. If you have the heart and resources, please consider making a donation to the ASSA Rescue Fund above, or to another animal rescue of your choice. The animals thank you for any way you show you care.
